Live@Penguin Gallery

Live Music, Live Recording..

For the past weeks, I have been experimenting with this newly acquired toy, the Zoom H4 Multitrack Digital recorder. While it may fail in the looks department (it actually looks more of a electric shaver than a sound recorder), the thing delivers awesome recording capability and portability. I had just laid my hands on it and in a few minutes I was able to do some 'primitive' recording already.

The 'device' fits more or less in you palm, considering how small my palm is, this is really portable. It is able to record in two (2) modes. You can choose to use the built-in crossed condenser mics (plus a built in mic modeler that simulates the sound of Shure Sm57 mics and other well known mics) or plug in using the 1/4 XLR input). It is capable of simultaneously recording two (2) channels or as a 4 track recorder). In my case, I used the H4 to record directly from my mixer. So far I have not heard any bad/violent comments from the people who have listened to it. The only thing I don't like about this gizmo is the size of the LCD panel, real bad for people with poor eye sight and admittedly, due mainly to old age. It also looks and feels 'cheap' due mainly to the plastic casing and some flimsy control buttons. You can also choose two recording formats, either as a CD quality WAV format using 16 bit 44.1 Khz resolution or as MP3 with up to bitrate of 320kbps. Now this is serious music piracy. The recording device is saved using SD memory card. Mine is installed with a 2GB SD card. I heard somewhere that you can also use a 4GB SD card, I have not verified t
his yet.

So that next time you watch our live gig at the Penguin, make sure your voice is heard loud enough. Who knows? This could be your 15 minutes of fame ?
But in this case I can assure you your shot at fame will be more than 15 minutes. You can record for about 300 minutes using 2 double 'AA' batteries. How's that Mr. Andy ???

Penguin Gallery-Channels

It's alive and (almost) kicking...
Finaly I was able to set-up on youtube Penguin Gallery Channel. It is composed mainly of the videos that I took using a point and shoot Casio digicam with 8MB pixel. But pardon some shots though, some scenes are a bit shaky, its not my hand though, it is more intentional as I was trying to make an MTV like effect, albeit unsuccessfully as you can see. Just watch click me..
