"Fabricated Photos"

One man exhibit of Dondon Villaluz.
Just recently the gallery held the one man photo exhibit of Dondon Villaluz. Dondon describe himself as a dreamer of world peace, unity and freedom. On a more lucid state he is a fulltime web designer, graphics artist and photographer.

Here are some images of the exhibit. I called them "fabricated" photos in a sense, that they look and resemble something of a textile collage designed and manipulated digitally.Using lights as the 'primary' source of his 'fabric' each pattern is repeated using the wonders of digital photography. While some folks would sniker (probably) so what else is new? In this day and age everything old becomes new and the new within nano seconds become old. So enjoy your digital moments and for god's sake just shut up....

The show is going until Sept 18, 2007. The next show will have the entire Alvarado boys (with the father and friend Nuni Alvarado, and sons Nukleyar and Barog doing various interpretaions of the current landscape of the the place they call home..
Bacolod.

Goodbye Anita, Max and Joe...

No, I am not turning this blog into an orbituary page, but it seems that in last few days and months the world had witnessed the passing away of some of the most beautiful people that ever live and in some ways made life more interesting and meaningful, both in the world of arts and business.

Max Roach (1924-2007) -drummer and civil rights activist help redefined the music of jazz in the 60's. During his time, Max played with Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus and a host of who's who in the jazz world. At the same time he was also one of the first musician to actively support the civil rights movement in America, with compositions such as "We Insists-Freedom Now". For this effort, his records were blacklisted by the American recording industry for some time. If ever you hear some jazz/bebop music, it could probably be Max, 100% sure, keeping the beats and the time.

Just recently the jazz world witnessed the passing away of one of the luminaries of 'experimental electronic' jazz, and one of the founders of my favorite jazz group of all time, Weather Report (with Wayne Shorter and the late great Jaco Pastorius). Joe Zawinul (died September 11, 2007 at the age of 75), born and bred in Vienna , trained as classical keyboardist. His unconventional use of the keyboard and melodic structure laid down the foundation for future jazz experimentation. He also played with the late Miles Davis (Bitches Brew, In a Silent Way and if my memory is working right (?) Live Evil) Years later, he formed the ground breaking, super jazz group of all time, Weather Report and before his death led his own Zawinul Syndicate. From classical to jazz to world and finally to the ethereal.

I met Anita Roddick, (1942-2007) founder of the Body Shop when the first Body Shop store opened in Glorietta Makati Philippines. This was about 10 long years ago. No, she does not know me personally and at that time I had no idea and does not care what the Body Shop is nor do I care for another beauty shop opening for that matter. As part of the band/group, Pinikpikan we were invited to play some percussive music during it's inaugural opening . At that time I was ignorant of what the company is all about. Instead I just enjoyed myself and played along our music, occasionally glancing and ogling at all the beautiful women getting excited about this new concept beauty shop that's about to clean their wallets.

It would be years later when I was reading some articles on the Fair Trade Movement and business ethics chuvas etc. etc. that I read and come to know the concept and philosophy behind this successful business empire. The Body Shop is one of the few multi million business that proved that yes one can be very successful and yet maintain a humane working environment for all it's employees and suppliers. For one, it sourced out it's raw materials and other basic ingredients from indigenious people at a fair price. This way the middle man is eliminated. In short, it tells you that you don't have to be an asshole to become super successful in your line of business. Unfortunately when she presented her thesis and business model to the Harvard Business School, she was given a failing mark and a lot of her business professor and teachers thought she was going nuts and becoming part of her "natural" ingredients (as in nut case?)

Just an afterthought, imagine what kind of music would they be playing by now? With all the superstars such as Miles on trumpet, John C on tenor sax, Max on drums, Jaco and Charles (Mingus) alternating on bass, Joe on keyboards, Jimi on guitars, Janis and Jim doing the vocals?
Ladies and Gentlemen the great gig in the sky is about to begin.

LISTEN! We will keep you posted on their debut album, I just don't know whether it is going to be recorded live or in studio? Digital? Analog? or plain heavenly?

NOTES: ALL PHOTOS TAKEN FROM OTHER WEBSITES.
